SUMATRA - Route & Hotel guide

In case you are considering to explore Sumatra, it is a wise idea to prepare well in advance. The journey is always a lot smoother, if you know where you are going to spend the night. Below are the list of places I stayed, during Phase 1 of my Sabang Sampai Merauke trip:

Bandar Lampung

Coming from the Bakauheni port, you have around 90km and 2 hours ride. Lampung is notoriously "famous" for people being stopped and robbed on the road.

I wasn't robbed myself though, but therefore you should arrive with the ferry from Jakarta no later than 15.00, to avoid riding in afternoon and night.

How it looks like, when you arrive after driving at night in Lampung

Note that the ferry can be delayed, which happened to me.
